A Christmas Event by Social Cooperative Enterprise 5ENTE
In collaboration with the Municipality of Tripoli

On December 7th, 2019, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, a special Christmas event titled “The Children’s Toys” was held at Petrinou Square, in the heart of Tripoli.

The event was festive, educational, environmental, artistic, and philanthropic — and it was open to everyone, with a special focus on children.

The Idea

As children grow, they no longer need some of their toys. Many toys become broken and unusable, and most are non-recyclable, ending up in landfills — harming the environment and our shared future.
So, we invited children and parents to bring these toys to the event venue or to participating schools. (All toys needed to be clean.)

What Happened at the Event

During the event, the toys were sorted:.
- Toys in good condition were displayed on tables, and each child could take one toy home.
- Any leftover toys were donated to organizations working with children.

Meanwhile, an art workshop was set up where kids and adults, with guidance from artists, used broken toys to create handmade Christmas ornaments, which were then used to decorate a Christmas tree.

At the same time, activity leaders taught the children (and reminded the adults) how to play traditional games from past generations — such as hopscotch, five stones, tag, hoop rolling, and more.
These old-time games, made from simple everyday materials, were just as fun, and they helped kids stay physically active while sparking creativity and imagination.

The Goals

This Christmas-themed event aimed to:

- Teach children the value of giving and the joy of receiving
- Encourage the use of imagination to create things that bring happiness
- Promote the satisfaction of making something unique — a product of one’s own creativity
- Show that throwing things away is not always the best solution
- Highlight how reuse and repurposing can ease environmental stress and strengthen bonds within families and communities

This meaningful initiative was organized by the Social Cooperative Enterprise “5ENTE”, with the support of the Municipality of Tripoli.
